Sunday Sessions – Richard Rozze and Guests

On the last Sunday in each month we will be hosting the Richard Rozze Jazz Sessions.

Richard Rozze – Guitars

Richard can be seen performing in a variety of contexts on the jazz and pop scene and has earned a reputation as a creative and flexible musician. Richard fronts the Richard Rozze Group featuring Paul Booth, Malcolm Edmonstone, Dave Whitford and Andrew Bain. Their debut album ‘Learning To Fly‘ is out now on Pathway Records.Richard has worked alongside musicians of many genres including, Paul Booth (saxophone) Brian Hanlon (singer/ songwriter) Dana Gillespie (vocals), Jeremy Peynton Jones (composer), Derek Nash (saxophone) Trevor Tomkins (drums), John Horler (piano).

”Richard Rozze is an artist who has successfully forged a unique approach to his playing and compositions. He glides effortlessly through multi-genre worlds, his solos flawlessly committed to his surroundings. On this debut album, the listener will be enthralled by Rozze’s ability to fuse elements of rock, jazz, folk & Americana. Bank Holiday Monday Sessions – Molly’s Lips

Molly’s Lips are a duo from Deal,, who both help make up the bands Cocos Lovers and The Hellfire Orchestra. Over the past two years they’ve been haunting the drinking holes of Deal, honing their sound besides roaring fires, pints of ale and intrigued locals. In 2015 they released a live EP on Smugglers Records which was recorded, mixed and released all in one day.


Sunday Sessions – Chilli Jam

Between the four of them there have been appearances at big festivals, small pubs and countless clubs (including Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express). They play in a variety of bands and styles but jazz is where the heart is and this comes out in the performances of Chilli Jam.

Angus Rorison – guitar

Angus has been playing in bands and solo for 30 yrs in Kent, London and France. He took up guitar due to a love of the blues in his teens, and was always influenced by the jazz he heard from his father, and his early upbringing in Africa. He has composed several tunes for the band, and gets carried away occasionally and plays percussion during drum solos. He lives near Chilham.

Favourite musicians: Buddy Guy, Fela Kuti, John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones.

Nick Browne – saxophones

Nick is a professional musician and graduate of the Leeds academy of music (specialising in jazz improvisation). He plays all varieties of saxophone, and now lives in Herne Bay.

Favourite musicians: Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, George Michael

Maurizio Borgna – bass

From Bari in Italy, Maurizio now lives in Margate and is in constant demand as a bassist, from which he makes his living. He studied bass at Middlesex and Goldsmiths College and has taught bass in Italy. Nick Harrington – drums

Nick is a drum teacher from Deal and all round jolly good chap. He’s been playing drums professionally and touring for many years, which has taken him to gigs in The Seychelles, Cyprus, Germany, Guildford and beyond.


Sunday Sessions – Jamie Moore and Dave Reay

Both Jamie and Dave have played at the Hop before and are outstanding guitarists, both able to adapt to different music genres. Jamie has jazz and pop classics at our popular Tuesday Pie and a Pint nights and Dave has played here twice with Gypskazz.

On this occasion they will be playing Gypsy Jazz together……should be a great night for all guitar playing enthusiasts!

After performing solo for a few years Sam came together with Gentlemen of Few’s guitarist Elliott Norris to create a new blend of Country, Folk and Blues tunes. Sit back, Relax and let these superbly talented young men soothe your soul and soon you’ll be lost in there magical blend of melody and lyrical brilliance.


Sunday Sessions – Dub Scouts

The return of one of our Hop and Huffkin favourites; the Dub Scouts! Expect some quirky reggae arrangements played on the Ukulele and Drum along with some great vocal harmonies from brothers Vernon and Darrell Woodward. Guaranteed a fun night with singing and dancing….especially if Mick Minter is in the house!
