Dulcie May Marino & Stephen Bridgland are a fresh Jazz Duo from South East Kent. Performing standards and classics with their unique soulful vibe. Expect soothing ballads and intricate instrumentals, with tastes of swing, blues, funk and soul. Keep your ears tuned in for some originals too.
He’s back from his world tour at last! Tom Abrahams is an outstanding guitarist. Imagine yourself sitting in a 1930s Paris bar listening to Django Reinhardt? Expect original Jazz and Gypsy Jazz classics, as well as some brilliantly crafted contemporary pop covers done in a Gypsy Jazz style.
Gypskazz is an exciting project, fusing Gypsy Jazz and Ska with Balkan, Arabic, Reggae, Rock and Latin influences. Referencing everyone from Beethoven to Charlie Parker, Django Reinhardt to Bad Manners, this is music that takes in a waltz, a tango, and a standard and makes it into something fresh and innovative. Gypskazz also have many of their own original songs and tunes making an interesting and thrilling set.
Gypskazz normally a six piece band, tonight will be downsizing to feature as a trio, “Gypskazz unplugged.”
Players tonight are leader, MelZebra on Alto Saxophone. Mel has a unique and elegant style of playing which has led her to play in Edinburgh to Egypt as a soloist or in a band, as well as featuring on many recorded albums. Accordionist and pianist Andrew Hedges, when not off being a busy composer and theatre MD expertly blends the flavours of Paris and Rio into the Gypskazz pot. Guitarist David Reay loves any excuse to mix up jazz, folk, blues, and rock styles. David is well known around Kent as a guitarist in Jazz ensembles and folk bands. Melzebra, David and Andrew are all composers and songwriters and we will be hearing some of their tunes tonight.

Trio Manor Manouche reawaken the infectious gypsy jazz pompe rhythm of the swinging 40s and 50s with their unique repetoire of tunes and captivating performances. Guitarists Nev Willis and Thomas Abrahams demonstrate the technical wizardry of Django Reinhardts guitar style across an array of gypsy swin. Bossa’s, Waltzes and original music alomgside Jarrod Coombes’ hands sliding up anddown the Double Bass. Regularly suprising audiences with their arrangements of many well known songs seamlessly crafted into that recognisable gypsy jazz sound they maintain an appeal far beyond the reaches of the typical jazz trio.

Abigail is from Broadstairs and will be performing some of her own songs and some well known covers. She has a lovely voice and is well worth turning out for!

Kent singer-songwriter Katie Bradley came into the spotlight with her 2012 iTunes Blues hit “I hear the river” which received a nomination for Best original song in the British Blues Awards, which came from her debut album “She’s Ready”.
Dave Ferra plays Blues, Spirituals and Ragtimes with guitar, slide and rack harmonica. Playing in England and the Continent he has supported The Blues Band, Kirk Fletcher, Paul Lamb, Babajack, Nine Below Zero, Billy Walton and The Spikedrivers amongst others and is a regular at London’s Ain’t nothin but the Blues Bar.

Richard Rozze – Guitars
Richard can be seen performing in a variety of contexts on the jazz and pop scene and has earned a reputation as a creative and flexible musician. Richard fronts the Richard Rozze Group featuring Paul Booth, Malcolm Edmonstone, Dave Whitford and Andrew Bain. Their debut album ‘Learning To Fly‘ is out now on Pathway Records.Richard has worked alongside musicians of many genres including, Paul Booth (saxophone) Brian Hanlon (singer/ songwriter) Dana Gillespie (vocals), Jeremy Peynton Jones (composer), Derek Nash (saxophone) Trevor Tomkins (drums), John Horler (piano).

Audiences are regularly left open mouthed by the guitar playing skills on show at every performance as you are taken on a trip through some of music’s most memorable tunes: ballads, standards, Irish, folk; it’s all played with affection and dedication and that’s without mentioning the excellent harmonica and mandolin playing and Nick’s banter with his audience.
The Annual Sandwich Folk and Ale Festival is back Saturday 7th July.
We have ‘Little Fishes’ playing on the Saturday from 3-5pm
plus ‘ Tall Trees’ playing Sunday 8th from 7-9pm
This year it will also be our 4th year of opening, so come celebrate with us! It will get a tad busy so booking is definitely recommended!!
