In the UK, Jonny is regarded as one of the few authentic players on the British Gypsy jazz scene. His background has seen years of experience playing amongst some of the top Gypsy guitarists in the world including Bireli Lagrene, Lulu Reinhardt, Stochelo Rosenberg, Paulus Schafer, Feigeli Prisor and jazz guitarists Mundel Lowe, Martin Taylor and John Etheridge amongst others.
In 2002 Jonny signed a record deal with USA label ‘Refined Records’ and released an album of originals called ‘Turkish Blend’ featuring renowned guitarist Robin Nolan. In 2004, GUITAR magazine referred to Jonny as ‘..the English virtuoso’ .
Over the last 25 years Jonny has played throughout the UK and abroad, including private performances for Sir Paul McCartney, Roman Abramovich, Sir Terence Conran, Paul Merton and Kool & The Gang. Other recent hi-profile appearances include the Django Reinhardt Festival Samois Sur Seine in France 2013, Birmingham International Jazz and Blues Festival 2013 and The Love Supreme Jazz Festival in Sussex 2015.
Audiences can expect to hear a vibrant mix of Gypsy swing, cool jazz and funky latin.

Live Music at 20:00 – Jed Grimes

Live Music form the well known Scottish Folk artist Jed Grimes…..well, he is from the frozen North East, not far from Scotland and he has promised to play some classic Scottish Folk songs as well as some of his own……and he will also address the Haggis in a his best Scottish accent!

Sunday Sessions – Dune – Acoustic Duo

Alex and Sarah have been playing the local circuit, on and off for 9 years. With a huge repertoire of songs we can cater for most requirements, including on the spot requests/jams.
They love reworking dance tracks, and introducing looping to add interest in their sets. Their influences are: Ed Sheeran, Damien Rice, Kings of leon, Gaga, Coldplay, U2, Tracey Chapman, Rihanna and DJ Fresh.

THE DELTA LADIES are multi-instrumental duo – Vicky Martin &

Diana Stone who perform regularly throughout the UK and France as a duo, trio, or band. They perform both acoustic & electric shows.  Vicky    plays Guitar, Lap Steel, Kandela, Uke & Bouzouki. Diana plays Piano, Fiddle, Keyboards & Accordion. The music, is an energetic mix of originals & cover versions with influences ranging through vintage New Orleans rhythm & blues, Americana, swing and rock & roll, to Bluegrass and American roots music.

Tuesday Sessions – Nick Kelly

Audiences are regularly left open mouthed by the guitar playing skills on show at every performance as you are taken on a trip through some of music’s most memorable tunes: ballads, standards, Irish, folk; it’s all played with affection and dedication and that’s without mentioning the excellent harmonica and mandolin playing and Nick’s banter with his audience.


 Tuesday night is also a Pie and a Pint for just £11 @ the Hop and Huffkin!

Between the four of them there have been appearances at big festivals, small pubs and countless clubs (including Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express). They play in a variety of bands and styles but jazz is where the heart is and this comes out in the performances of Chilli Jam.

Angus Rorison – guitar

Angus has been playing in bands and solo for 30 yrs in Kent, London and France. He took up guitar due to a love of the blues in his teens, and was always influenced by the jazz he heard from his father, and his early upbringing in Africa. He has composed several tunes for the band, and gets carried away occasionally and plays percussion during drum solos. He lives near Chilham.

Favourite musicians: Buddy Guy, Fela Kuti, John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones.

Nick Browne – saxophones

Nick is a professional musician and graduate of the Leeds academy of music (specialising in jazz improvisation). He plays all varieties of saxophone, and now lives in Herne Bay.

Favourite musicians: Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, George Michael

Maurizio Borgna – bass

From Bari in Italy, Maurizio now lives in Margate and is in constant demand as a bassist, from which he makes his living. He studied bass at Middlesex and Goldsmiths College and has taught bass in Italy. Nick Harrington – drums

Nick is a drum teacher from Deal and all round jolly good chap. He’s been playing drums professionally and touring for many years, which has taken him to gigs in The Seychelles, Cyprus, Germany, Guildford and beyond.


Sunday Sessions – Jamie Moore and Dave Reay

Both Jamie and Dave have played at the Hop before and are outstanding guitarists, both able to adapt to different music genres. Jamie has jazz and pop classics at our popular Tuesday Pie and a Pint nights and Dave has played here twice with Gypskazz.

On this occasion they will be playing Gypsy Jazz together……should be a great night for all guitar playing enthusiasts!

The G-Minors are a popular East Kent Acoustic Duo that have been successfully playing together since 2011. With Trev Giles on guitar and vocals and Tracey Thomsett on lead vocals.

Versatility in repertoire and performance lead The G Minors to an exciting and energetic combination, delivering strong harmonies and vocals, they are constantly updating material to cater for those looking for something fresh and new.

Expect a varied and surprising set of re-worked covers and original material that will have you singing and dancing along.


Sunday Sessions – Gypskazz

Gypskazz is an exciting project, fusing Gypsy Jazz and Ska with Balkan, Arabic, Reggae, Rock and Latin influences. Referencing everyone from Beethoven to Charlie Parker, Django Reinhardt to Bad Manners, this is music that takes in a waltz, a tango, and a standard and makes it into something fresh and innovative.  Gypskazz also have many of their own original songs and tunes making an interesting and thrilling set.
Gypskazz normally a six piece band, tonight will be downsizing to feature as a trio,  “Gypskazz unplugged.”
Players tonight are leader, MelZebra on Alto Saxophone.  Mel has a unique and elegant style of playing which has led her to play in Edinburgh to Egypt as a soloist or in a band, as well as featuring on many recorded albums. Accordionist and pianist Andrew Hedges, when not off being a busy composer and theatre MD expertly blends the flavours of Paris and Rio into the Gypskazz pot. Guitarist David Reay loves any excuse to mix up jazz, folk, blues, and rock styles. David is well known around Kent as a guitarist in Jazz ensembles and folk bands. Melzebra, David and Andrew are all composers and songwriters and we will be hearing some of their tunes tonight.

Originally touring with a London funk band, Amanda has moved back to the coast and is now settling into the local jazz scene. She is a passionate and soulful player, remoulding traditional jazz melodies into smooth easy listening songs. With beautiful piano accompaniment by Joseph shepherd.
